Young Artist on the Move

I first met Andrew Ghrist in Davis, CA when he was 10 years old, through his older sister. In the last 8 years he has grown into an amazing artist and someone to watch in the future.

About A.R. Ghrist

Andrew GhristAndrew Ghrist didn't first start exploring his love for art and painting till about age 14. I went with him and his sister when he moved into the dorms at the California Institute of the Arts to attend InnerSpark, a summer art program, back in 2006. Before this summer he had only taken classes in Junior High School. After that he went on to attend the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) Pre-College Program in 2007. Then in 2008, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Pre-College Program. In 2009, he began working towards his BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

Andrew focuses on oil paintings of photo realistic portraiture and most recently suspension pieces. He is always continuously working to enhance his technical skills, along with his views on human interaction and emotion.

It was very exciting to see his first solo show at Primary Concepts, a tattoo studio in Davis, CA, back in July of 2009 (still showing till January 2010). He has come so far since I first met him back in 2001, every year exceeds the one before. He is growing so much as an artist and I know one day I will be happy to say, "I knew him when...".

My Top 2 Favorites

The two paintings below are my favorites from his collection. I really like the detail and the shadowing in these paintings. The suspension pieces are part of his most current work and i'm interested to see more of this theme.
